Bjoern Eskofier, Ph.D.

Eskofier is Assistant Professor for Computer Science in Sports (endowed professorship of the Adidas AG) and head of the Digital Sports Group at the Pattern Recognition Lab of the FAU.  His group is conducting research in the fields of machine learning and signal analysis for wearable computing systems in health care and sports.   He studied Electrical Engineering at the Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) Erlangen-Nuernberg (Germany) and graduated in 2006, and studied under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Benno Nigg at the University of Calgary (Canada). There, he received his PhD degree in Biomechanics in 2010 for his research on ‘Application of Pattern Recognition Methods in Biomechanics.’  Among other work, he has published on the development of shoes that automatically respond to surface sensing.  Prof. Dr. Eskofier has authored more than 100 peer reviewed articles and submitted 5 patent applications.  He was a guest editor and contributor to the recent special issue of JBHI on “Enabling technologies in Parkinson’s Disease.”
